I liked this ep. The non-linear narrative kept me on my toes. You may be right about this being a filler of sorts, with no major advance in the story arcs. Nevertheless, I liked the show.
The ending isn’t perfect, but I thought it was still good. It surprised me. They should’ve ended it with the reaction of the jurors after the judge made the announcement. They didn’t need to show the scene where the head juror throws the pieces of paper in the garbage. It would’ve been more dramatic I think, and would leave room for ambiguity.
As for Kalinda, they’re deliberately keeping her a mystery. I don’t remember where I read it (was it here?), but some people seem to think Kalinda’s really not Alicia’s friend. When she teases Alicia (about Will not looking at here anymore), was she just gathering information? On whose behalf? Oh, and I also thought the “I’m Kalinda” reply was lame. She may be intimidating, but cmon.
I think one could certainly see it as a filler, but the fact the writing and the acting is so good really prevents it from being bad filler. Indeed, one of the things that I think marks filler is that it feels like a waste everyone’s time, from the show’s cast and crew to audience. And “Doubt” didn’t feel like a waste of time.
Agreed about the need for ambiguity/doubt the ending could’ve drove home with considerable more finesse. I keep thinking about it and I still come back to the same conclusion: it really didn’t work for me.
That theory of Kalinda was’t here, but I find that theory interesting, but it would seem like a bit of an ass-pull (on this show anyway) to reveal Kalinda working as a double (triple?) agent for someone on a state or even national level looking to topple Peter more through Alicia.
